STEFAN Ratchford is well aware of what the World Club Series game means to Warrington – not least from seeing himself plastered on billboards across the town.

Ratchford and Fiji captain Ashton Sims are the poster boys for tomorrow night’s showpiece, and the 26-year-old is keen to get Super League off to a winning start.

“You walk around and the posters are up everywhere, the banners are up,” said the 26-year-old.

“It’s massive for the club and a massive test for us as individuals playing against an NRL side.

“It’s a great concept, the three games, and hopefully we can pick up a 3-0 win and a bit of silverware.

“Me and Ashton went and did the photo shoots, some of them are not the best pictures but it’s always good fun doing a shoot like that.

“Luckily I’m from Wigan so I get to laugh at the ones that Josh Charnley and Liam Farrell did!”

The former Salford man has been Wolves’ starting full back so far this campaign, but is backing teammate Matty Russell for a big season.

“I’ve started there for the first couple, but Matty was missing with having his teeth fixed,” he added.

“He’s looking to get back in the squad and no doubt he will be in the team in some capacity, because he is a quality player.

“You look at his first real, full season last year and I think he came up with top metre maker and probably most line breaks – he’s a little ball of speed and muscle.

“No doubt he’ll be back in the side at some point.”

Ratchford was disappointed to not make an appearance for England during the Four Nations Down Under, but Friday’s visitors are a side packed with international quality.

“If you look across you’ve got (Josh) Dugan the full back, he’s played Origin, you’ve got Jason Nightingale, he’s a New Zealand international, and Benji Marshall, who’s a New Zealand international,” he explained.

“So you look across the full squad they’ve got international players and possible internationals all over the park.

“I would say 99 per cent of our lads will have seen St George play in the past 12 or 18 months, so you kind of had an idea of the quality they’ve got before doing the video this week.”

Another is Ratchford’s England teammate Gareth Widdop.

“Gaz is a quality player and no matter what team he’s in he’ll be one of the go-to and stand out players,” he added.

“It’s going to be a test playing against someone of his quality. His kicking game and the plays he comes up with.

“It’ll be a tough test not only against him but the rest of the team as well.”
