GARY Wheeler believes Australia will get to see there is nothing ‘second tier’ about Super League when the World Club Series takes place on Friday.

Wheeler, after making appearances in each of Warrington's opening Super League games, hopes to be in the 17 to face St George-Illawarra Dragons in the new-concept event that also sees Wigan Warriors host Brisbane Broncos and St Helens entertain South Sydney Rabbitohs over the same weekend.

“It’s new to me, it’s new to the club and all the team are buzzing about it,” said Wheeler, signed from St Helens in the close-season.

“Hopefully the fans are as well and the rest of Super League. It’ll be great to get a good run out against the Aussies, show them we can compete with them and get a bit more respect off them.

“They look down on Super League as a second-tier league to them, but I don’t think that’s the case and I think we’ll prove that on the Friday we play them.”

The 25-year-old looks forward to testing himself against some of the world’s best.

“St George do have world class players – Gaz Widdop, Benji Marshall – and every team that’s coming over has, but as have we.

“I think it’ll be a really good contest. It’ll be a great game to see – a tough, physical and entertaining game,” he added.
