WARRINGTON Wolves’ friendly clash with rivals Widnes Vikings may have been postponed yesterday, but Tony Smith had his side working hard in the gym instead.
The club’s head of coaching and rugby had the squad in training at Wolves’ Padgate base, and he was impressed with the work they got through.
“We did a big session in the gym, a good old work out,” explained Smith. “The players were good, they rolled their sleeves up and got into it.
“We’re obviously disappointed, we were so much looking forward to the game. But they rolled their sleeves up and did a great job.”
And Smith has backed Wolves’ investment in an all-weather, indoor training facility as the perfect remedy to the cold weather.
“We’re building it for the weather we’ve got at the moment,” he explained. “Our 19s were in training this morning as well and they had to come into the gym.
“Whilst it’s a great facility our gym, it just opens up so many other options once we get that indoor facility complete.
“It’s coming along, it’s really close. It reminds us in weather like this as to why the club has invested in it, for these sorts of occasions.
“Our preparation could continue in the same vein it’s been in, which has been excellent really.”
