RIVAL pubs will battle it out on the football field in a Christmas match in aid of a Northwich charity.

Teams from the Witton Chimes and the Green Dragon will play at Whalley Road playing field on Sunday, December 28, complete with a half time ladies penalty shoot-out and followed by drinks and Christmas fun at both pubs.

Stephen Carter, who works for Barclays at Radbroke Hall, has organised the match in aid of Tiny Steps, a fledgling charity set up by a Davenham family hoping to provide a sensory play area and social cafe for children with additional needs and their families.

Stephen said: "I get involved with charity at work but it’s been for national and international causes so I wanted to do something for the local community.

"At the same time I was also talking to the landlord of the Chimes and landlady of the Dragon who wanted to do something for the local community.

"So I came up with the idea of a charity match that would involve not just the locals but the local community.

"My sister and brother-in-law do a lot for Tiny Steps so I was aware of their cause and explained it to the pubs who agreed it was a great cause – plus it's local."

Entry is free but players must be aged over 35.

People are also being encouraged to cheer on their favourite pub team.

Anyone who can donate raffle prizes should ring Stephen on 07921 331860.
