SHAUN Reid is hoping Warrington Town can make Cantilever Park a fortress when they return home for the first time in six games on Saturday.

The Yellows host Bamber Bridge in Evo-Stik Northern Premier League First Division North at 3pm.

And Town’s boss expects the visitors to raise their game against his side after their FA Cup exploits, but also hopes the Yellows can maintain some of their new-found support.

“I don’t think anyone really wants to come and play us at our place, but I do think people raise their game against us now,” said Reid.

“That’s how far we have come. When you are in the public domain talking about you being in the FA Cup, that’s what it brings with it.

“People want to come and beat us now. That’s a good thing, people put us on a pedestal and it’s important to me and the players.”

He continued: “It’s all about people coming to watch and getting people through the gates. They are massively important and show how far we have come.

“If they can get behind us then we’re hoping our place can become a fortress.”

Reid is hoping new signing Lee Gaskell will be fit for Saturday after the forward suffered a tweaked hamstring in the win at Mossley.

“We’re going to asses him through the week,” explained Reid. “We got him off early so we’re hoping it will settle down and be fine.

“He’s been a breath of fresh air. The lads see the quality he’s got and we don’t want to be missing good players.”

Goals from David Mannix and Scott Metcalfe helped the Yellows climb to 14th in the table, making it five wins in their past seven games.

“I know it’s a big ask, but I’ve asked them to go the rest of the season unbeaten,” added Reid.

“We want to test ourselves and rightly so as we are a progressive football club, but it’s not going to be easy.”

Reid was delighted to get back to winning ways in the league after defeat to Gateshead in the FA Cup second round, reserving special praise for his skipper Mannix, keeper Karl Wills and forward Steven Tames.

“It was 26 years since Warrington won at Mossley, so it goes to show we are doing something right,” he said.

“Manno was the best player on the pitch by a million miles. I chose him as a captain as he can grab games by the scruff of the neck.

“Karl made one great save which was good for him, showing what a great keeper he is. Without Karl we wouldn’t have been playing Gateshead, we would’ve been out against Colwyn Bay.

“He got us as far as we did in the cup. He made a mistake, but he will learn from it.

“Tamesy did brilliantly, turning and running at people in the box.”
