MIDDLEWICH will be home to a new 'waste transfer centre' under new proposals put forward by Cheshire East Council.

The new centre will be built in the town following the authority's failure to build it in Lyme Green in Macclesfield.

Work on the centre in the north of the borough stopped three years after it emerged planning permission had not been granted.

Cheshire East Council has refused to release the Designated Independent Person’s (DIP) investigation into what went wrong in Lyme Green on the grounds of data protection, with the authority stating evidence in the report was given during disciplinary proceedings and it fears it could face legal action if it is made public.

More than £1million worth of taxpayers money has been wasted as a result of the Lyme Green saga.

However, the location of the site in Middlewich has yet to be revealed to the Guardian but it is understood it will not be in an area of town close to homes.

A council spokesperson told the Guardian an announcement would be made 'very soon’.
