THE A556 has re-opened following a serious collision.
The carriageway has been re-opened in both directions following a crash which took place at 1.30pm today, Friday.
The collision involved two vehicles - an Iveco lorry driven by a 63-year-old man from the Bradford area, and a black Audi driven by a 42-year-old man from the Manchester area.
The lorry driver was not seriously injured, but the car driver suffered serious injuries and was taken by ambulance to North Staffordshire Royal Infirmary where he is being treated. His family have been informed.
Following the collision the road was closed in both directions, with traffic being diverted.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision, or for anyone who may have seen the two vehicles before the crash and have any information which may assist police.
