A MID Cheshire-based hospice is hoping residents take part in one of the centre’s most important dates in the calendar.

Rosie Leach, from Northwich, is supporting St Luke’s Hospice’s ‘Light Up a Life’ campaign that is taking place next month.

A donation allows a light to shine on the hospice’s tree and the lights continue to shine for a loved one until Twelfth Night.

Rosie’s mum, Pat, died in December 2012 but the family wanted to support this year’s campaign in recognition of the treatment Pat received while she was at the centre.

“St Luke’s is a very special place to our family,” said Rosie, who lives in Northwich.

“Mum was in the hospice two years ago. On 27 December 2012, she sadly lost her 14-year battle with breast cancer.

“Although she passed away at home, the support and care that St Luke’s gave to both mum and the whole family was just amazing.

“I was doing my A-levels at the time.

“Going to visit my mum at conventional ‘visiting hours’ like in a hospital was difficult; St Luke’s enabled me to spend all of the time that I wanted and needed with my mum. Our whole family felt that the staff were just spectacular in every way, and without a doubt, they made my mum feel more comfortable.

“The generosity and comfort that you showed towards mum and our family was exceptional.”

Wendy Field, matron at the hospice, said: “St Luke’s is like an extended family for many people. At the hospice we do our utmost to ensure that care is delivered in the most dignified and supportive way possible. We take great pride in ensuring that every person is looked after - the treasured family member who is ill, their loved ones, as well as their friends”
