Stroud League Division Three

Uley 2 St Nicholas OB 2

ULEY entertained the unbeaten league leaders St Nicholas Old Boys on a quagmire of a pitch, which actually contributed to a fantastic match.

The home team started the match well, pushing the visitors onto the back foot, but the closest Uley came to scoring was when Luke Cooper looped a shot against the top of the crossbar.

However, the visitors took the lead against the run of play when a swift counter-attack resulted in a goalmouth scramble that was eventually bundled in despite the best efforts of Sandor Toth and Lee Stopford.

Uley put St Nicholas under pressure and eventually equalised when quick movement and accurate passing created gaps in the visiting defence.

Adam Philp made the break down the left side and accurately crossed to Rich Kemp, who superbly steered passed a helpless St Nicholas keeper.

Both teams had opportunities to score but strong defensive performances kept the score to 1-1 at half-time.

The second half was as keenly contested as the first as both sides attacked each other with fervour without having a cutting edge in front of goal..

St Nicholas retook the lead with 15 minutes to go with a sweetly struck shot from the edge of the area that gave Uley keeper Toth no chance to save.

Uley didn’t give up hope though, and deservedly levelled again minutes later when good interplay between Steve King, Dan Walton and Pete Jagger created a chance that was taken by Philp.

Stroud League Division Seven

Abbeymead 3rds 2 Uley 3rds 2

ABBEYMEAD and Uley were evenly matched as they played out a draw.

Uley began the game brightly but went behind from a corner.

This did not affect the visitors' confidence and they responded by playing really good football to put pressure on Abbeymead’s defence.

Uley's Paula Fernandez skipped through their defence and lobbed the keeper to equalise.

As half-time approached, Fernandez put in a fine cross to the back post to Ricardo Azevedo, who scored to give Uley a 2-1 lead at half-time.

Abbey equalised in the second half when Uley were guilty of a lack of concentration in defence.

Goalkeeper Paulo Pereira kept Uley in the game at the end with a superb save with five minutes to go.

Man of the match was Gavin Fisher, who stood out at left-back for the visitors.

WITH 17 goals and plenty of defensive mistakes from both teams, this game was an incredible encounter.

Full credit must go to both teams for a very entertaining game which was played on a rain-sodden pitch.

Uley stormed into a 5-0 lead after 30 minutes with three goals for Mark Seer and further goals from Adam Philp and Jack Woodward.

Frocester were awarded a penalty when the score was 3-0 but this was well saved by Uley keeper Paulo Pereira.

While Uley kept going forward with some excellent play they became more vulnerable at the back.

Frocester managed to score three goals before Seer scored his fourth of the game to make it 6-3 to Uley at the break.

The hosts began the second half with more purpose and two quick goals gave them strong belief.

They added two further goals to go with a goal from Uley in reply as Frocester took an 8-7 lead with five minutes to go.

However, goals from Woodward and Philp won the game for Uley.
