HS2 campaigners are inviting cyclists to see for themselves the potential impact of the proposed high speed link on the local road network this weekend.

Mid Cheshire Against HS2 is staging a Banners and Bikes event on Sunday from Pickmere to Wimboldsley.

The event is due to run from 10am to 3pm, and will include brief stops at points at which campaigners say the planned high speed rail link will cross local roads.

The stops will include Wincham, Lostock Gralam and Lostock Green, and there will be two refreshment and comfort breaks along the way.

Anyone who would like to take part is welcome to come along, for the whole event or to join in at any of the stops.

Those due to take part include campaign group members Ewen Simpson, Graham Dellow, Ros Todhunter, Philip Lund and Chris Triffitt.

Photographs will be taken at the various crossing points of group members with banners, which the group plans to use on its website and facebook page to increase public awareness of its campaign.

“Anyone is welcome to come along to watch or take part, and we will have collecting buckets with us to help raise money for the campaign,” said Graham Dellow.

The cyclists are due to meet up at 9.30am at the junction of Pickmere Lane and School Lane, and the first stop is at 10am at the junction of Flittogate Lane and Pickmere Lane.

The next stops are at 10.30am at Linnards Lane, Wincham, and the A556 northside footpath at the Lostock Triangle at 10.45am.

The group plans to stop at Birches Lane, Lostock Green, at 11.15am, followed by a refreshment break at the Duke of Portland in Lach Dennis.

The next stops are midday at Pennys Lane, Lach Dennis, Crowders Lane, Davenham, at 12.20pm, and the junction of Whatcroft Hall Lane and King Street, Rudheath, at 12.40pm.

These are followed by a stop at Greenheyes Farm, Stanthorne, on the A533, at 1.30pm, a refreshment break at Greenheyes Farm, and the last three stops at Stanthorne Lodge, Middlewich Road, Stanthorne on the A54, at 2pm, Clive Green Lane, Stanthorne, at 2.20pm, and Railway Cottages, Nantwich Road, Wimboldsley, on the A530, at 3pm.

“The route which we will be following on Sunday is about 12 miles long, and anyone who will have left their car at the start will be given a lift back after the event,” said Graham.
