CHILDREN are being treated to some spooky fun on Halloween by community-spirited mum Debra Phillips.

Ghouls and skeletons stare out at visitors from the front garden of Debra’s home in West Avenue, Rudheath, today

The Haunted House display was created by the mother of two on Friday to coincide with Halloween, and has become a popular annual feature in the community.

People are drawn from across the town to Debra’s home to see a display which has grown every year as word has spread of the novel charity fundraiser.

The display is covered in a giant cobweb, extends to the driveway and garden fence fronting the pavement, and was started by Debra seven years ago.

For the past five years she has raised funds for charity, and this year’s display is supporting Macmillan Cancer Support.

The display is accompanied by appropriately spooky music and is lit up at night, and is staged for one day only, on Halloween.

Debra started to put together the display at 7am, and is inviting donations from people who come to see the ghoulish entertainment, which continues until about 9.30pm tonight.

She raised £375 for Macmilllan last year, and is hoping to beat that total this year.

“I created the display for the local community, and it is eerie and spooky rather than gory,” she said.

“It is popular with all ages, not just children, and people really enjoy it. People come from Northwich not only Rudheath to see it, and take pictures.”

Debra has received support from Helen’s Hair Studio and the Wow Shop, which had collecting tins, and collected at Matalan.

Lidl, Aldi and Matalan donated Halloween-themed cardboard cut-outs and posters, Steve Bennion from Farm Road, Rudheath, made a castle for the display and local resident Peter Watson donated carved pumpkins.

“I would like to thank everyone for their support, especially our neighbours and the immediate community,” said Debra.

This is the second year she has raised money for Macmillan Cancer Support, and has also supported The Joshua Tree, a local children’s charity, North West Air Ambulance and Willows Veterinary Hospital in Hartford.
