MORE speed limit reductions are en route to Davenham.

A 20mph zone was created through the centre of the village earlier this year and a proposal is being put together to extend the zone.

It currently includes London Road, Green Lane, Church Street and Fulton Grove and the extension plans, being put together by Cheshire West and Chester Council's highways department, include Mount Pleasant Road and Hartford Road.

Members of Davenham Parish Council, which discussed the plans at its meeting on Monday, fear that the 20mph zone does not go far enough.

They want more of London Road to be included as well as the section of Fountain Lane that links London Road and Mount Pleasant Road.

"We hoped this next phase would include more of London Road in both directions," said Clr Arthur Wood.

Clr Keith Carter said: "Fountain Lane is a must – we've got a school on that road."

Clr Brian Robinson said: "It would make more sense to do that than all these little side roads – they've got carried away.

"On a lot of these, like Eaton Lane, you would have a job to get up to 20mph."

The speed limit assessment has been jointly funded by Cheshire West and Chester Council and ward councillors Helen Weltman and Elton Watson.

Clr Helen Weltman is also providing £120 of her members budget for 20mph roundels to be painted on the roads in the current zone.

She also funded speed monitoring within the zone, which revealed that the average speed of motorists was 26mph.

The highest speed clocked was 29mph.

Davenham Parish Council will contact Cheshire West and Chester Council to discuss its hopes to extend the speed limit reductions in the new phase.
