A RESTED Widnes Vikings side will head to The Halliwell Jones Stadium on Saturday, kick-off 2.45pm.

While Warrington Wolves faced a bruising encounter at Wigan in the final regular round of the Super League season, Denis Betts took the chance to rest some of his stars.

Having already secured their play-offs spot, Vikings handed a week off to skipper Jon Clarke, Dream Team pick Kevin Brown, Eamon O’Carroll, Danny Tickle and Rhys Hanbury.

Betts’ outfit eventually went down 36-6 at the AJ Bell Stadium to Salford Red Devils, a side they had previously beaten three times this season.

Wolves will be favourites for Saturday’s clash, but Widnes did do a Super League double over their Warrington neighbours last season, winning 38-22 at home in March and 16-6 in the return.

They were also winners the last time the sides met, recording a 28-14 success at the Select Security Stadium in Round 21 on July 18.

Tony Smith’s side ran out comfortable winners the last time Vikings visited Warrington, recording an eight-try success .

The 44-6 win on Good Friday came courtesy of tries for Gareth O’Brien, Joel Monaghan, Michael Monaghan, Chris Bridge, Rhys Evans, two, Ben Currie and Ryan Atkins.
