VETS in Mobberley are lending a helping hand to dogs in need after fire claimed 60 lives at Manchester Dogs' Home.

More than 150 dogs were rescued from the blaze and have been moved to Cheshire Dogs' Home, in Grappenhall.

Ark Veterinary Surgery, in Town Lane, are acting as a collection point for donated items and will also offer medical assistance once needs are identified.

Wendy Nield, practice manager, said: "Ark Veterinary Surgery will be helping Manchester Dogs' Home with anything they may need during such an awful time.

"The home has been inundated with blankets and bedding and their request is now for donations of Chappie Food wet and dry, food bowls, medium sized dog collars and leads."

She added: "Once the dogs have been checked over today that's when we will step in as a vets and offer the care and medication they need."

A 15-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of arson following the fire.
