FOR most people a wedding will be the biggest event they organise in their lives but a Cuddington couple have gone a step further by creating a music festival around their big day.

Add that to the fact that Kym O'Brien and Tom Coulbeck started putting their festival wedding together in May, just three months after having their baby boy William, and it is safe to say that 2014 has been a busy year for the newlyweds.

"It's been a mad year," Kym said.

"It was an amazing day, absolutely fantastic from start to finish and we couldn't have asked for anything better.

"It was like Christmas when you can spend months preparing then the day comes and it's gone very quickly.

"It's been like that in terms of the tremendous amount of build up then the day was over very quickly but we embraced every single minute of it."

The couple took over Riverside Organic Farm, in Whatcroft, for the weekend to create Coulfest completely from scratch, complete with bands, tepees, chill out tent with arm chairs, jam-jar tea light lanterns, flags, bunting, home made signposts, a picnic for all guests and even a bake off.

Guests wore festival outfits, including wellies, had homemade lanyards and sat at tables themed to match Kym and Tom's favourite bands.

The newlyweds officially tied the knot at Chester Register Office on Thursday so that Saturday's ceremony could be led by a friend using vows that the couple wrote themselves.

"If I had to pick a highlight it would be the ceremony," Kym said.

The festival theme was a nod to how the couple met, which was at Leeds Festival in 2010.

"We've always tried to go back there," Kym said.

"We go to loads of music festivals - music's important to us - and we wanted to create something that we go to."

She said the 150 day guests and 180 evening guests got fully into the spirit of the event and even the bar staff enjoyed themselves.

"The bar ran out of booze three times and they had to go back to the supermarket, which they said they've never done before and said it was a testament to the guests having a good time," she said.

"They said they felt so much love and happiness in the room as a whole all day and that the reason for the wedding was the right one - it was fantastic."
