MID Cheshire's musical community is settling into a new home.

Amplify Youth Music Project was set up four years ago to provide a place for young people aged between 11 and 19 to rehearse, organise gigs, play and enjoy music and meet like-minded friends.

They formerly met at The Venue, in Rudheath, but have now moved to Northwich District Youth Centre, in Winnington Lane.

When it was announced last year that the project would have to move buildings, both teenagers and youth workers alike were devastated, writes Amplify member Sara Tonge.

The Venue had become a second home to them and the prospect of moving away from that, and possibly losing the project, was overwhelming.

However, the project was injected with hope once more when it was rehomed at Northwich District Youth Centre (NDYC).

Although NDYC may not provide as many musical rooms as The Venue once did, the attendees seem to have settled in perfectly.

When I spoke to them, a lot of the teens said that there was more space for other things such as cooking and arts and crafts and that, although it was weird at first, they have grown fond of their new building.

“There’s room for everything” said Kate Goulding.

Beth Hanson added: “It’s very organised with a nice atmosphere."

Many of the kids said “it’s cool” and “comfy/relaxing”.

Paul Barratt, one of the youth workers at the project, said: “It gives us a lot of opportunities”.

Overall the project seems to have been given a new life along with its new home and put a smile back onto the faces of teenagers in Northwich.
