PRESIDENT Jenny Friar welcomed everyone to a well attended August meeting of Cuddington & Sandiway WI.

She informed everyone that it had been voted to have this year’s Christmas party in-house, and that a caterer and entertainer had been booked.

Members were then taken on a musical journey through time by local folk singers Ailsa and John Booth. This was folk music sung and enjoyed by ordinary people from medieval times reflecting their hopes and fears in times of peace, war and of celebration.

Starting with the cuckoo song Sumer Is Icumen In from the 14th century, through to Bob Dylan and the Beatles, Ailsa and John sang contemporary, traditional, and blues.

There were also tunes composed by John played on lute, guitar, ukulele and mandolin to which the audience were invited to sing along to.

Afterwards members could look at the instruments they had brought, including an Appalachian dulcimer, a psaltery, banjo and a selection of flutes.

John and Ailsa were warmly applauded for creating such a happy atmosphere and entertaining so well.

After refreshments, Chris Bailey from the Cheshire Federation gave a talk and spoke about the importance of members volunteering to serve on their branch committee.

The next meeting will be on September 11, in the Village Hall.
