VILLAGERS are being urged to put their concerns about a proposed high speed rail link to HS2 Ltd representatives at a public meeting.

Five thousand leaflets have been sent out by the Mid Cheshire Against HS2 group to publicise the meeting on Saturday, September 13.

Organisers are hoping for a full house at the meeting, which is taking place at Lach Dennis Village Hall, Holmes Chapel Road, Lach Dennis, from 10am to 12.30pm.

It will include a presentation by HS2 representatives and an hour-long question and answer session, allowing the public to have their say.

Phase one of HS2 will link London to Birmingham, and construction is due to start in 2017. Phase two will connect Birmingham to Manchester on the western branch and Leeds on the eastern.

“We are hoping it will be standing room only at the meeting,” said Graham Dellow, secretary of campaign group Mid Cheshire Against HS2.

“The meeting will be a chance to bring the public up to speed with where HS2 is in the north west, and will give people their first opportunity to put questions to the HS2 Ltd representatives.

“HS2 Ltd asked to talk to us, and we hope it will be a lively meeting and people will ask as many questions as possible.

“There is growing anger over the HS2 plans, and concern from people that their lives are going to be blighted by the line.”

Leaflets have been delivered to communities including Lach Dennis, Lostock Gralam and Lostock Green, stating there is no business or environmental case for HS2 and no money to pay for it.

There will be only 150 seats at the meeting, so residents are urged to get there early.

Coffee and biscuits will be served from 10am before the HS2 Ltd presentation at 11am and question and answer session from 11.30am to 12.30pm.

The leaflet includes a section where people are invited to write a question for the HS2 representatives, to bring to the meeting, or email their question to mcahs2@yahoo.co.uk if they are unable to attend.
