NORTHWICH Folk Club has three star names lined up for its famous 'Folk Fortnight' taking place this month.

Vin Garbutt, Titch Frier and Wizz Jones will be performing in three venues across Northwich as part of the club's event that kicks off on Friday, September 12.

Vin, a big name on the international folk scene, is hugely talented, great fun and a wicked whistle player, with songs ranging from deeply moving to side-splittingly funny.

He has visited the club before and will be performing at the Gladstone Club on September 12, starting at 8.30pm.

A week later Tich Frier will be at Winnington Park Rugby Club. His background lies in the Scottish folk scene and he is known as an entertaining and chatty performer. He has shared the stage with the likes of Robin and Jimmie, Carthy and Swarbrick, Barbara Dickson and Archie Fisher.

Wizz Jones, a leading light in the 1960s Folk Revival, alongside the likes of Bert Jansch, John Renbourne, Jackson C Frank and Davey Graham, will then round off the fortnight with a performance at the club's base, the Harlequin Theatre, on Queen Street on Friday, September 26.

Pete Thompson, from the club, said: "The idea is that we have got three quality artists and we hope to attract a few more people to come down and see them.

"At the heritage night on the 24th we want to encourage people to come down to listen to some of our heritage songs."

In between the headline acts there will be a celebration of Cheshire talent on September 17 and 24.

A heritage songs workshop will take place on September 17 at the Polish Club on London Road and entrance is free.

Following on from that a heritage songs night will take place a week later at the Weaver Hall Museum, starting at 8.30pm and costing £3.

The club is offering a special ticket bundle for the fortnight, costing £20 for members and £25 for the general public.
