A HISTORIC landmark needs volunteers to help teach youngsters about its importance.

The Anderton Boat Lift is launching a recruitment drive for its education team as increasing numbers of schools book educational visits to the attraction.

Helen Evans, the Canal and River Trust's educational coordinator, said: "It’s a great time to join the team as we are having increasing numbers of enquiries from schools interested in discovering more about the lift and their local waterways plus we are about to pilot a brand new education project within the town.

“Education volunteers will be able to get involved in a whole range of activities – from helping children to understand the local history to delivering children’s holiday crafts, together with delivering the well-established school visits."

A recruitment event will take place at Northwich Library, in Witton Street, from 3pm to 6.30pm on September 4.

Volunteers need to be 18 or over and training will be provided for the different activities.

To register your interest in attending email helen.evans@canalrivertrust.org.uk or ring 07585 402702.

The Anderton Boat Lift will also be holding an open weekend on September 13 and 14 to showcase the lift and river trips, the top of the world tours, the private hire facilities and volunteering opportunities.
