YOUNG people have been congratulated on their success in this summer’s GCSE examinations.

Students from our local high schools received their results on Thursday.

More than 3,000 year 11 students from across 19 academies and secondary schools across Cheshire West received their examination results on Thursday.

Government changes mean that although students can re-sit GCSE subjects, only their first entry in any subject appears in performance tables, and some GCSE equivalent examinations are no longer included in the tables.

Provisional data for Cheshire West shows that 73 per cent of students gained five or more GCSEs at grade C or above.

In addition 59 per cent of students gained five or more GCSEs at grade C and above, including English and mathematics.

Councillor Mark Stocks, executive Member for Children and Families said at Cheshire West and Chester Council said: “Many young people across Cheshire West and Chester have worked hard for their GCSE exams, and I would personally like to congratulate them on their success.

“The important role of teachers, support staff, governors and parents must also not be forgotten.”
