ARMED police swooped on two houses in Northwich on Friday morning in a dramatic double drugs raid.

Officers from Cheshire Constabulary executed two warrants under the Misuse of Drugs Act at addresses in the Queen Street and London Road area of Northwich.

The raids took place at around 7am.

Two men, aged 27 and 31, and a woman, aged 28, were arrested in the raids and a quantity of drugs were recovered by police.

A 31-year-old man has since been charged with possession of Class B drugs and production of Class B drugs.

He will appear at West Cheshire Magistrates' Court, in Chester, on Friday, September 12.

Northwich Neighborhood Policing Team (NPT) worked closely with Cheshire Police headquarters resources in response to a number of complaints of drug related activity in that area.

Chief Insp Richard Rees said: "Neighborhood officers will continue to work closely with the public and take positive action wherever possible.

"I would urge anyone who has any information to ring 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."

An eyewitness to the raids, who did not wish to be named, said: "Armed police raided a house in London Road this morning, about 7.40.

"All very efficiently done and all very dramatic, carrying rifles would you believe.

"There were eight or nine police, some with rifles, for one man in his underpants."

Northwich NPT has been proactively tackling drugs issues in the town.

During the summer months officers have worked with magistrates and Weaver Vale Housing Trust to shut down three 'crack houses' in the town centre, including addresses in Harrison Place, Peter Street and Drillfield Road."
