ONESIE wearers raised around £1,000 with a stroll around a Northwich park.

More than 30 people donned their favourite nightwear to walk around Vickersway Park in aid of The Brain Tumour Charity.

The event was organised by Elliot and Evan Johnson, aged 10 and 12, along with their grandparents Steve and Eileen Sharman.

Eileen has been living with a brain tumour for more than 15 years.

During this time she and Steve have run fundraising events and also worked with The Brain Tumour Charity to offer support and advice to other people affected by a brain tumour, setting up a monthly support group in Northwich.

To date their fundraising events have raised more than £10,000 towards research.

The Onesie Walk saw participants turn up to walk a mile in the rain on August 10, with Batman and Homer Simpson among the suits on parade.

There was also a raffle, cake stall and stands selling nappy cakes and scarves.

Sue Wreglesworth, The Brain Tumour Charity’s operations manager for the north and midlands, said: “This was a fantastic event and thank you so much to everyone who turned out on such a rainy and windy day.

"The funds raised will go to support our much needed research projects.”

Louise Taylor, The Brain Tumour Charity’s director of fundraising and communications, said: “We receive no government funding and rely 100 per cent on voluntary donations, so it’s only through our fundraisers that we are able to continue our work.

“Brain tumours are the biggest cancer killer of children and the under 40s and survival rates have not improved over the last 40 years.

“We are leading the way in changing this, fighting brain tumours on all fronts by funding world-class research as well as offering support and information.”
