NORTHWICH Multisports has received a major boost from last year’s town mayor.

A farewell dinner and auction for Clr Bob Robinson as the town’s civic leader raised more than £3,500 for the club, which supports children and families with disabilities.

The club was Clr Robinson’s chosen charity during his year as mayor, and the fundraising event at Hartford Golf Club was also attended by his wife Jan, last year’s mayor’s consort.

The club meets on Saturday mornings at Northwich Youth Centre, is run by volunteers and offers a range of activities including art, kayaking, sports and opportunities to socialise.

The Guardian ran a story in May about the club needing to raise £50,000 a year to keep going after grant support was not renewed.

As a result Weaverham Cricket Club supported the club recently by doing the Three Peaks Challenge, and volunteers have taken part in a dance-a-thon and other activities.

“We would like to thank the retiring mayor and the cricket club for their support,” said club trustee Andrea Lewis, who has two sons with Autism Spectrum Condition and severe and complex special needs.

“The club is a valuable part of the disabled community and helps parents to access other parents for support in what is a very isolating life.”
