WINCHAM Parish Council is to switch its monthly meeting to Witton Albion Football Club in September in a bid to enable more residents to attend.

The council usually meets at Wincham Community Centre in Church Street, at the northern end of the village.

However the September meeting is to be held at Witton Albion to enable residents from the southern end of Wincham, in particular those in Chapel Street and who cannot drive or do not have a car, to attend.

Annie Makepeace, who has taken over as council chairman, said she wanted to make sure the council represented the whole village, in particular residents on Chapel Street.

“To do that we need to hear from all of you, so please call, email or write,” she said.

“We can’t represent your wishes if you don’t tell us what they are. We plan to hold parish council meetings at Witton Albion as well as the community centre to make it easier for you to call in and join us.

“All residents are invited to come from 7.15pm to 7.30pm to talk to us before the meeting starts, and are very welcome to stay and observe after that.”

Parish clerk Naomi Morris said the change of venue was an experiment, and the council would be delighted to see as many residents as possible at the meeting.

“It costs the council more to hire the room at Witton Albion, but this can be done if it enables more residents to come to parish council meetings,” she said.

It costs the council £92 a year to hire the community centre for 10 meetings, and £30 for next month’s meeting at Witton Albion.

The September meeting is on Wednesday, September 17, at 7.30pm, and residents are invited to come along for 7.15pm for the public forum if they wish to speak to councillors.

If anyone wishes to have an item discussed on the formal agenda send it to Naomi at winchampc@talktalk.net by September 7.

The agenda will go up on council notice boards near the playing fields on about the second Wednesday of the month.
