A MEDAL has been given to a Northwich charity by a mysterious benefactor who the group is keen to trace.

The Queen Elizabeth II 1953 Coronation Medal arrived at the Alzheimer’s Society, in Navigation Road, by post in a padded envelope but included no details of who sent it.

Gill Yates, from the society, said: “We would love to find who out has donated it as there may be an interesting story behind it.

“We are not sure what to do with it, whether the donor wants us to sell it and use the cash towards our services or if they would be happy for us to use the medal at our groups as a reminiscence tool – we would love to do this as it seems such a shame to sell it on when people attending our groups may get enjoyment out of it and it could spark some interesting conversations about the coronation and what people were doing at that time.

“It is a wonderful item and was quite a shock when I opened the post, we would love to track down whoever has sent it to say a big ‘thank you’ personally but if they prefer to remain anonymous and are reading the paper ‘thank you’.”
