CONSTRUCTION work is due to begin shortly on a major new housing estate in Lostock Gralam.

The 13-acre development at the Lostock Triangle is to be known as Long Wood Park, and will consist of 146 homes.

It is anticipated that the first properties will go on sale in September, with the first showhome being available to view in November.

The estate is being developed by Bellway Homes on Cheshire Avenue, between the A559 Manchester Road and the A556 Chester Road.

The homes will be a mixture of three and four-bedroom detached properties and three-bedroom semi-detached houses and mews.

Bellway Homes sales director Jenny Bell said: “We’re delighted to reveal the eagerly awaited plans for Long Wood Park and announce that properties will go on sale very soon.

“The location of the development is attracting early inquiries, and we are inviting any interested purchasers to register their interest with us and we’ll keep them up to date with further developments, as they happen.”

The housing scheme was granted planning permission in March 2013 by Cheshire West and Chester Council, despite a planning officer’s recommendation that it should be refused, as the site was reserved for employment and road noise could be a problem.

However, members of the authority’s strategic planning committee approved the scheme, following speeches by Lostock Gralam Parish Council clerk Nicola Clarke and CWAC councillor Mark Stocks.

Nicola said at the meeting that the business park was half empty, and the housing scheme would support schools and existing local businesses, and would create construction jobs.

Clr Stocks told the meeting that the site was one of the most sustainable in the borough, with a school within a 10-minute walk and a post office, shops and play facilities in the community.

Jenny Bell said the Bellway properties were ideal for young professionals, couples, families and commuters, and the development would feature attractively landscaped public open space and recreational green areas.
