COMMUNITY volunteers, outdoor activities and support for families are being supported this month by Waitrose shoppers.

Each month the Northwich store donates £1,000 to good causes, which is divided between three organisations.

Customers are given a green token at the checkout, which they can drop into one of three Community Matters boxes, one for each of that month’s chosen causes.

The organisations being supported this month are Barnton Community Group, Moulton Adventure Group and Home-Start West Cheshire.

The groups which were supported in June were Cheshire Search and Rescue, Sanctuary for Veterans and Life Education, which are to receive £453, £315 and £232 respectively.

Barnton Community Group is involved in a range of projects including over-60s tea parties, restoring local historic sites and the transformation of Barnton Village Green.

Moulton Adventure Group provides outdoor activities including climbing, kayaking, hiking and camping for eight to 14-year-olds and Duke of Edinburgh groups for 14 to 18-year-olds.

Home-Start West Cheshire supports families with children under five which are struggling to cope due to illness, disability or lack of experience, and offers trained volunteers.
