WEAVERHAM’S annual carnival and rose fete proved to be a huge success again this year as the event moved up a gear to join up with the Classic Car Show.

Crowds gathered along Lime Avenue and Withens Lane on Saturday, July 12, to watch the parade before the new rose queen Chloe-Marie Humphreys was crowned on Lakehouse Field.

Barbara Eames, chairperson of the Weaverham Rose Fete committee, said: “The day has gone fantastically well, the floats all look beautiful, and it was really good to see Graham Evans here opening the fete.

“I have been running the carnival for 25 years and it just keeps changing and getting better each year and this year there has been more people involved than ever before.”

“We also have the classic car show here this year and it has worked really well and made it a real family event.”

Chloe-Marie was crowned as the new rose queen along with her retinue princess Leanne Bailey, Barbara Eames’ granddaughter and junior queen Leah Spence, rose bud Kiera-May McTasney, and fairy queen Lara Wheat.

As well as the floats carrying the rose fete retinue, crowds were entertained by several dance groups in the parade such as Elite Dancers, Quick Steps dance group, and Dancing 4 Fun.

The classic car show attracted attention with various unusual motors such as a Renault 12TL which was bought from KBT Motors in Middlewich in 1975 and has recently appeared in the BBC TV Series Life on Mars.
