GARY Hammond is putting his best feet forward for a gruelling charity trek.

The 58-year-old from Lostock Gralam is planning to walk 130 miles from Pwllheli in north Wales to Mobberley Victory Hall in September.

He will be tackling the challenge over the course of a week to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The route Gary will be taking will pass through Criccieth, Beddgelert, Betws-y-Coed, Corwen, Llangollen, Wrexham and Nantwich before finishing at Victory Hall.

“I have walked the Sandstone Trail and several other long distance trails to raise money for worthwhile causes in the past, but none on this scale,” said Gary, the manager of the Victory Hall.

“I chose Macmillan because I have lost some very good friends to cancer, and although I know the walk will be strenuous their memory will keep me going.

“My fundraising page has already reached £650, but my target is £2,000. If anyone would like to make a donation to this worthwhile cause please visit my sponsorship page.

“I look forward to any donation people might give, and if anyone wants to say hello along the way I would be more than happy to see them.”

Gary is planning to walk from Pwllheli to Mobberley between September 12 and 19.

If anyone wishes to make a donation they can do so online at www.justgiving.com/gary-hammond4.

Alternatively people can support Gary by text message. For example, to donate £10 text AMMW56 £10.

“What Gary is doing is amazing, and we’re so grateful for his support,” said Sarah Page, Macmillan fundraising manager for Cheshire.

“I would like to say a huge thankyou to Gary and everyone at the Victory Hall for getting behind his fundraising campaign.

“Macmillan relies on public donations for 98 per cent of its funding. We could not provide our cancer support services without the support of the local community.

“When you have cancer you don’t just worry about what will happen to your body, you worry about what will happen to your life. At Macmillan we know how a cancer diagnosis can affect everything, and we’re here to support you through.”
