GIRL guides from Cuddington and Weaverham will be travelling to Gambia to work with members of the community and in local schools.

Chloe Van Embden, 15, from Cuddington, and Jemma Causton, from Weaverham, along with Rachel Aldus from Barnton, will be travelling to Gambia in April 2015 with the Girlguiding Cheshire Forest and will be holding various events until then to raise money for the trip.

They will be working on a number of community action projects in and around the town of Gunjur such as running peer education sessions with local teenagers on key issues, working with members of the local community to help them learn new skills for life, and painting educational murals in local schools and medical centres.

Chloe said: “The trip will be an amazing experience for us and will teach us lots of new skills as well as being a big boost to our personal confidence.

“I know it will give us a different perspective on life and will deepen our understanding on the challenges faced by girls of a similar age in developing countries.”

The cost for the trip is £1,500 per person and the girls are looking for local businesses to sponsor them.

As part of their fundraising, the girls will be hosting a car boot sale on Sunday, June 29, at Lake House Field in Weaverham.

The car boot sale will run from 8am until noon and entry with cars will be £8 and vans £10.
