OBSCENE and racist graffiti has been daubed on new £30,000 children’s play equipment in Winsford.

The police have warned they’ll be deploying proven techniques to track down whoever is responsible for the ‘vile’ crime.

And the town council is offering a reward for information that leads to the conviction of the offenders.

Town clerk, Alan Warburton, said the graffiti had been uncovered at Wharton Recreation Ground and the King George VI Play area, off Greville Drive, after a recent period of considerable anti -social behaviour.

“Some of the material is racist and obscene and is clearly the work of one individual.

“Particularly distressing is the fact that some of the most obscene material has been daubed on a toddlers play unit at the Wharton Recreation ground.

“The Council takes a very dim view of this mindless vandalism and would be prepared to pay a small reward for information leading to the conviction of the person or persons responsible.

“The Geoge VI play equipment was completely renewed last year at a cost of £30,000 and almost every piece of equipment has been defaced.

Police maintain an up-to-date record of ‘tags’ – the signatures used in graffiti – that they have previously used to track down offenders.

Inspector Dave Snasdell from Winsford neighbourhood policing team said they’d be using the technique again and urged the local community to come forward with information.

“The police will be taking steps to identify who is behind this vile graffiti,” said inspector Snasdell.

“Criminal damage will not be tolerated. We have been successful in the past at tracking down vandals via the tag they use in their graffiti.

“We would urge the community to come forward with any information that might assist us.”

Anyone with information should call the Cheshire Police non emergency number 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
