    Dont let cheshire west and chester council kid you! The one way system will in no way be suffice for the traffic throughput in and out of northwich! I can tell you now! it will mean more traffic lights! With a greater volume of traffic backing up into the town! You might ask me why!

    Well if you follow my lead for a minute!

    Most citys and towns and there suburbs are are naturally formed over time into almost a circular shape/district London as the biggest example and Chester/macclesfeld one of the smallest examples. The problem with northwich is it can't form into this type of circular district and have through roads (4 lanes) like Chester/Macclesfield and even winsford to a certain degree! because northwich sits in a basin surrounded by two rivers several canals and brooks, verdin park, Marbury park and the old tip, lime beds and nature reserve, the arches, church and cemetery plus 4 railway lines including HS2 and the flood plain of the Dane valley The outlay for a through road would cost literally hundreds of millions and the environmental impact would be massive!

    So what's the answer? For me it would be cheaper and less of an environmental impact to have a miniature M60
    we already have about 70% of it and clockwise it could run from the lostock triangle down the A556 up to sandiway then down the A49 to stretton then we would need the bypass connection from stretton to the lostock triangle on the A556 to complete the road circular around northwich! This in conjunction with better bus and train services is the only viable solution to the road chaos which is going to ensue northwich in the coming years!

    Ps If your talking health and safety by the way is. Somone addressing the fact that both the hay hurst bridge and town bridge were build for horse and cart and as per 1976 had a standard weight limit of 32 tons. Now I could be wrong and since 1976 they might of of been upgraded but with having traffic lights before each bridge now you could effectively have two 44 tonne HGVS in traffic on the bridges.
    What total utter rubbish! Since when was Davenham on the same side of the river weaver as Hartford ? And are leftwich and kingsmead not part of 'greater northwich'? At least look at map before posting stupid comments."

PLANS to close Northwich’s subway could be buried if residents want it to stay open.

Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWAC) had suggested filling the Chesterway underpass in as part of work to develop the new Memorial Court and its surroundings.

Northwich Town Council expressed its concerns about the proposal to replace the subway system with a pelican crossing and will now take part in a joint consultation with CWAC.

Town clerk Chris Shaw said he had been assured that no decision had been made and that initial reports into the issue will go before both councils, which will then work together on the consultation.

Clr Kevin Rimmer said: “If that’s done properly and CWAC is true to its word then that’s definitely the way forward and I would support that.”

Clr Paul Dolan said he was still waiting for evidence that the underpass was unsafe.

“One or two people talk about their concerns about safety in subways,” he said.

“In that particular subway I’m not aware of any particular issues.

“I just wondered, again, have we got any evidence to suggest that having the subways is less safe than not having them and can that information inform the final decision?

“I would like to know the number of incidents that might have occurred there in the past year or so.”

Mr Shaw said a report on this issue was being put together before the consultation was launched.

Reports will go before Northwich Town Council’s planning committee.

In February CWAC said it would fill in the underpass if it had the money as crossing at ground level was safer.
