ROADWORKS will start again in Northwich town centre on June 23 and are set to last for 14 weeks.

The works are the final phase to make the one-way system permanent.

They will start at the junctions of Chesterway with Crum Hill and with Watling Street, near Seafarer, and then at the junction of Dane Street and Watling Street at the Bull Ring.

Road layouts will change to reflect the temporary system currently in place and new traffic signals and pedestrian crossings will be installed.

The Bull Ring will also be regenerated to include public realm materials that will match the stone used in the recently reconstructed surface of Witton Street.

Temporary traffic signals will be in operation for the majority of the works.

Resurfacing works will take place at night under road closures, details of which will be advertised in advance nearer the time.

Richard Flood, area highways manager for Cheshire West and Chester Council, said: “The gyratory system has been introduced to support the major regeneration of the town centre, notably Barons Quay, Hayhurst Quay and Memorial Court.

“The final phase of construction will involve a link to a computer system to allow the traffic to flow freely in and around Northwich, whilst providing safe crossing facilities for pedestrians and cyclists.”

The scheme is jointly funded by the Department for Transport and Cheshire West and Chester Council.

It will be constructed by AE Yates Ltd.

Once roadworks are complete measures will be put in place to make the gyratory more cycle friendly.

These are expected to include footpath conversions to shared use as well as toucan crossings, advanced stop lines and trixie mirrors.

Cycle racks will also be installed in and around the town centre.
