A SUMMER picnic and musical extravaganza will make a Northwich park Simply the Best on Saturday, June 21.

A Tina Turner tribute is the headline act on a full bill of entertainment starting at Verdin Park at noon.

Singers and musicians will perform throughout the afternoon and evening, with a fireworks finale closing the event at 10.15pm.

Admission is free to the Verdin Park Music Festival, which has been organised by Northwich Town Council.

It is the second Verdin Park Music Festival arranged by town mayor Clr Alison Gerrard, after the successful Proms in the Park events held during her first term as mayor in 2011 and 2012.

“Last year the sun was shining and we had a lot of people up there having a good time,” she said.

“I’m really pleased with how it’s grown – the idea was that each year we’ll develop it and it’ll grow bigger and bigger.”

She added: “Bring your picnics again and your chairs ¬and enjoy it – it’s all free.”

Acts on the day include Vale Royal Drums Corps, Dee Sign Choir, country singer Steven Doyle and Wayne Storey, among others, with the Tina Turner tribute act performing in the evening.

Clr Gerrard said: “We wanted to go for something that will appeal to a lot of people and be a bit of fun.

“With Tina Turner, everyone knows the songs and we’ll hopefully have everyone up there singing ‘Simply the Best’.”

There will be a short interval following the music and then the firework display will start at 10.15pm.
