CHILDREN have been learning about road safety by taking part in a Giant Walking Bus.

Thousands of children took part at 10am today in the national event organised by road safety charity Brake for primary school children.

The event was aimed at raising awareness of the dangers of traffic, to promote walking and to raise funds for Brake’s work to improve road safety and care for road crash victims.

Among the children taking part were year six pupils from Darnhall Primary School in Winsford, who walked between the school’s junior and infants sites with class teacher Natasha Mulholland.

They were also accompanied by the school’s road safety officer, teaching assistant Liza Ryde.

“The aim was to highlight the dangers of cars around school, to consolidate what the children know about road safety and to promote walking to school,” said Liza.

The 10 and 11-year-olds looked at traffic lights and the speed of cars, and created road safety posters.

Brake says half of children are driven to school, which increases pollution and danger and affects health.
