LOSTOCK Gralam C of E Primary School pupil Ebony Steen will be the star of the show at a village fete and fun day.

The 10-year-old is to be crowned the Lostock Gralam Rose Queen at Lostock Gralam Community Centre by last year’s queen Eleanor Hardy.

The crowning will be the highlight of a community celebration on August 24, which begins at midday with a procession through the village to the community centre.

Entertainment will include dancers, children’s rides, a bouncy castle, land train and numerous stalls, and organiser Emma Beasant is also hoping to book a birds of prey display.

About 30 children attended the choosing of the retinue by Clr Peter Kelly and his wife Lynda, and each child has been given a role at the fete.

The fairy queen is Roxy Johnson, Kelsie Bowyer is the rose bud, and the princess and prince are Keeley-Jo Crawford and Alfie Tabbitt respectively.

Lewis Doyle is the crown bearer, the sword bearer is Jack Birtles, Callum Wilding is the sash bearer and the bouquet bearer is Joseph Blake.

The other children will be fairies, flower girls, ladies in waiting, train bearers, knights and page boys.

A number of events are being organised to raise money for the fete, and a family bingo evening at the community centre raised £413. A family quiz night is being planned in the next few weeks, and it is hoped to run a car boot sale.
