THE nation’s first Yarn Shop Day proved a big hit for a Northwich trader.

Crafty Stitches, in Witton Street, celebrated the day by festooning Witton Street in knitted decorations, giving goodie bags to customers and hosting a variety of demonstrations.

Tracey Todhunter, from Let’s Knit Magazine, showed off her crochet skills, Beth Barlow from Knit a Year brought her knitted marching men and mood knitting and Carolyn Shepherd from ArtWork Studios knitted in the sunshine.

The winner of the murder mystery window display was also revealed as Dot Bowden, who spent the day at the event.

Louise Hough, from Crafty Stitches, said: “We would like to send a big thank you to everyone who came along and supported us, especially volunteers from our Chicks that Knit knitting club, who not only supplied their skills in knitting and crocheting to make our bunting and hanging basket, but also providing the atmosphere inside our gazebo with our other customers too.

“Special thanks go to Tracey and Beth, who both came to support our shop by providing their services on the day and also to Glenys Porter who baked the most fabulous knitting cake we’ve ever seen!”
