Parents take on team managers at fun day

The managers of the teams at Rudheath Youth FC are to take on parents in a game billed as one of the highlights of a fun day being staged by the club.

The fun day is to be held on a field alongside the school on Saturday, June 21, from midday until late afternoon, and is being organised to raise awareness of the club in the community.

“The day is about getting everyone together and getting some new players at the club,” said Marc Baiton, club chairman and under 11s manager.

“This is the first time we have done a fun day, and there will be games such as a penalty shoot out and crossbar challenge, as well as a barbecue and bouncy castle.”

The managers versus parents match starts at 1pm, and Marc joked – “there is no way the managers can afford to lose – the pressure’s on!”

The club has received a defibrillator from the Ciarans Cause charity.

Seven-year-old Ciaran Geddes suffered a suspected cardiac arrest in 2012 when he went out to play football with friends.

He was given CPR within minutes, but died, and had a defibrillator been present he would have stood a greater chance of survival.

The charity donates free defibrillators to schools, sports clubs and community youth groups and arranges free defibrillator awareness training.

Marc said Rudheath Youth FC is believed to be the only youth football club in the area to receive the life-saving equipment.

“It will provide peace of mind, will be taken to every home game, and we are very thankful to Ciarans Cause and 1874 Northwich for this important piece of equipment,” he said.

Ciarans Cause is the main charity partner for football club 1874 Northwich, and the defibrillator was presented at a car wash at Arnold Clark in Northwich organised by 1874 for the charity.

All funds raised by 1874 for the charity will go directly to defibrillators in the Northwich area.
