TWO people have been arrested in connection with a fire at an empty council building in Watling Street, Northwich.

Two fire engines from the town tackled the blaze at the Cheshire West and Chester building at 3.20am on Tuesday.

The building was home to the registrar of births, deaths and marriages, and has been empty for a number of years after staff were relocated.

A spokesman from Northwich Police said two people had been arrested in connection with the fire, and had been bailed pending ongoing inquiries into the incident.
