THE show must go on for a theatre group as it battles against all odds to stage its last production of the season.
Harlequin Players Club had to postpone performances of The Rise and Fall of Little Voice after a fire broke out in warehouses next door to its base on Queen Street in Northwich, affecting the electricity supply to the building.
The group, which has been entertaining audiences since 1946, was due to put on the play in early April but no electricity meant they couldn’t rehearse.
But now almost two months later the actors and crew are eagerly awaiting the delivery of a generator later this week meaning rehearsals can continue under floodlights ready for the shows at the beginning of June.
Laura Bason, who manages the youth theatre group and will be playing Little Voice, said: “We’ve always had a base and people would drop in for a cup of tea.
“We work well together as a team as it’s extremely difficult to get people into the theatre.
“When the fire broke out at Leftwich Warehouses, we had Northwich Comedy Night the following evening and we were expecting a full house.
“The show was moved thanks to Davenham Theatre Group but having no electricity and no money to fund a generator meant we had to postpone our performances of The Rise and Fall of Little Voice.
“The Youth Group was able to move to Cuddington 69ers Youth Club and are staging Alice on June 21 and 22.”
Alice has been co-written by Laura and 14-year-old Ellie Hamer, who will also be assistant director.
Changes to the performance dates of Little Voice have also meant cast changes as well as the cancellation of The Taming of The Shrew but everyone is determined to put on a good show.
The Rise and Fall of Little Voice will be on between Wednesday, June 4 and Saturday, June 7 and ticket information is available from harlequintheatrecw9.co.uk or go to the information centre in Northwich. Alice in Wonderland tickets will be sold on the door with reservations needing to be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org.
