Might help if the speed limit was painted on the road a few times as I am constantly being "pushed" when driving along that road by drivers unaware it is a 30 area not 40.

WHS ....if only it was so simple, At both ends of Manchester road there are signs on (and at the side of the road) stating 30, I suppose a few more wouldn't hurt though. As regards being pushed well don't worry what is behind you concentrate on what is happening in front of you."

Police urge motorists to keep to the speed limit

MOTORISTS are being urged to slow down after almost 70 were caught speeding on one of Northwich’s main roads last month.

The call comes from Police Community Support Officer Phil Hambleton, who carries out regular speed checks on Manchester Road, which links the town with the A556 Chester Road.

A total of 69 motorists are to be reported for breaking the 30 speed limit following police speed checks in both directions.

Manchester Road is one of the busiest routes in and out of town, and boasts a 30 speed sign near the A556 junction, numerous ‘Police Speed Check Area’ signs and an interactive speed sign.

PCSO Hambleton has been carrying out speed checks on the road for the past two years, during which the monthly figure for those being reported has been falling after peaking at more than 200 last year.

“Last month’s figure was among the lowest we have seen, which I believe is due in part to the fact that we have been out doing regular checks and are seen so much,” he said.

“We want to keep the figures down and keep people safe, both motorists and members of the community. I would like to go out there and do a speed check session where I don’t report anyone for breaking the speed limit.”

He said local people were concerned about speeding, and he had been approached by residents thanking him for carrying out the speed checks.

“Speeding has always been an issue on Manchester Road, and residents come up to me when I am doing a check and tell me how fed they are about it,” he said.

“I would like motorists to drive within the speed limit, and not to do it because they see me but because it is the right thing to do.

“We will continue to carry out speed checks for as long as we can see there is a need for them and there is a demand from the community.”

PCSO Hambleton carries out a speed check at least once a week, at any time of the day, lasting several hours.
