AS part of a new monthly Guardian video feature, Cheshire’s police and crime commissioner has outlined ‘inevitable’ job losses at the constabulary in the face of ongoing budget cuts.

The Guardian is looking for readers’ questions to put to PCC John Dwyer for future instalments of the regular online video interviews.

During the first instalment, Mr Dwyer explained where the review into the future of Winsford police station is up to, the positive outcomes he’s seen during his tenure, and why he thinks the people of Cheshire have warmed to the idea of PCCs.

Mr Dwyer also hit back at criticisms of his staffing numbers in the face falling officer numbers.

He said: “The job I do now is absolutely nothing like the job that was being done previously by the old Police Authority.

“For example, I’ve got responsibilities now for supporting victims. The old Police Authority never had that responsibility and the individuals that have been added to my staff are there to carry out those extra functions that were never there before.

“I wish people would stop doing this comparison between me and what went on before. The jobs are so totally different that the comparison, for me, is not legitimate.”

Mr Dwyer also recounted his ‘disappointment’ over the low voter turnout during the PCC elections in November 2012, and outlined why he thinks the people of Cheshire will vote in ‘significantly larger’ numbers next time around.
