WINSFORD has been given a ‘marvellous’ jobs boost with the announcement that Morrisons will create 200 new roles at its local food processing plant.

The supermarket is expanding the volume of meat products produced at its Wharton Bridge facility, which it took over from Vion Foods in 2012.

The jobs on offer cover a number of different positions, from production to managerial and engineering.

Mark Harrison, group manufacturing director for Morrisons, said: “We are delighted at the success of the Winsford site over the last two years which has now given us the chance to expand and offer lots of new opportunities to join Morrisons.

“This is a really exciting time to be joining Morrisons as our manufacturing sites are hugely important to the business and we are continuing to invest in them.

“The range of roles available will hopefully appeal to anyone who might be looking for their first job, those who are returning to work or even someone who is looking to start an exciting new career.”

The Winsford site processes the retailer’s large range of meat products, and is an integral part of Morrisons ‘field to fork’ supply chain that sees fresh food sourced from its own abattoirs and farm.

Winsford town mayor, Clr Mike Kennedy, said: “I could not have envisaged a finer end to my term of office as mayor than hearing this marvellous news.

“I fervently hope that this means local jobs for local people wherever possible.

“This certainly is a boost for the Winsford. I firmly believe that companies such as Morrisons are showing great faith in the town and her people when deciding on their expansion.”

Eddisbury MP, Stephen O’Brien, added: “The success of Morrisons in Winsford, and the creation of all these new jobs, is down to good management and the hard work, skills and training of the people of Winsford. I offer my congratulations to them on this good news.”
