A HOLIDAY lodge for disabled youngsters and their families has been unveiled in Delamere.

Named by some of the young people who will use it, Champions Lodge was officially opened by Christine Pickthall MBE.

The lodge is built to hotel standard and has two bedrooms and two bathrooms, with specialist equipment in both bathrooms and one of the bedrooms.

Work surfaces in the kitchen can be raised or lowered and outside there is a fenced garden, accessible car park and level access to the lodge.

The project was funded by the Government’s Aiming High for Disabled Children programme and Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWAC).

Christine, chairman of Vale Royal Disability Services, said: “I was pleased to accept the invitation because it provided an opportunity to celebrate the successful partnership established between CWAC and all the young disabled people who were encouraged to give a voice in the design and construction of this lovely ’fully accessible’ building in the heart of Delamere Forest.

“I know that it will provide a much needed and much used short break facility for young disabled people and their families.”

The lodge is for families who have disabled children and young people up to the age of 25.

CWAC leader Clr Mike Jones said: “This wonderful building is the result of a successful partnership with everyone doing that little bit extra to ensure that the lodge is first class and allows families with a disabled child or young person to have a holiday break in the wonderful environment of Delamere.”
