REGAL youngsters have been selected to take pride of place in this year’s Davenham Carnival.

Village children queued up at Davenham’s Royal British Legion to vie for the role of carnival queen at the summer event.

Megan Keeling, seven, won the top job and will be crowned as carnival queen 2014 on the day.

Nina Mewies, six, has been chosen as her lady in waiting.

The fairy queen has been named as nine-year-old Tilly Jessica Gibbs and seven-year-old Katherine Groves will be the rosebud.

The date for the carnival has been set as Saturday, June 21 and it will take place on Butcher’s Stile field.

Carnival day will include bands, rides, stalls and a spectacular arena stunt display as well as the traditional parade of royalty, retinues and visiting queens Carnival organisers are appealing for more boys and girls to join the retinue.

Vicki Jones, from the carnival committee, said: “We would love a few more retinue members.

“Dresses will be provided, so girls would not have any expense.

“Boys are also welcome.”

Practice sessions for retinue members will be held in June before the carnival.

The carnival committee is drawing up its list of stallholders for the day and also looking for raffle prices for the grand draw.

If anyone wants to donate a prize, have a stall on the field or join the retinue ring Annelise on 01606 49110.
