FIREFIGHTERS from across Cheshire battled a blaze at an industrial unit in Northwich town centre overnight.

Crews were called to the two-storey building in Queen Street at around 11.15pm yesterday, Friday, and spent two hours fighting to get the flames under control.

Northwich crews were joined by fire engines from Winsford, Stockton Heath, Holmes Chapel, Middlewich and Warrington to help at the building, which was 60 metres by 10 metres.

Flames broke through and destroyed the roof at one part of the building.

A statement from Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service at 1am today, Saturday, said: "Crews are making good progress and have been able to prevent the fire from spreading further.

"Firefighters are getting the blaze under control and the number of fire engines is being reduced to six and the high volume pump has also been released from the scene."
