A NEW project which aims to get children in touch the wild and learning forgotten skills will be coming to woodlands in Cheshire.

Cheshire falconry are planning sessions in Blakemere Wood for children aged seven and upwards where they will be taught about wildlife in our forests as well as key skills on how to survive in the wild.

Steve Birchall, Company Director of Cheshire Falconry, said: “This is a great way to teach the kids a whole manner of things but the biggest of all is building self esteem and having fun whilst doing it.

“Kids don’t get out enough anymore so this will be a great way to get them active and learning skills that will help them in the real world.”

The sessions will last up to three hours and will be run by qualified wildlife professional with over 40 years of experience.

As well as being introduced to the array of falconry on display in Blakemere woods, the children will be given a wood carving course where they will be shown how to make long bows.

Bush craft courses are also available for adults and can be taken over a longer two day course.

The adults’ courses will be based more around survival in the wild and will include building shelters out of things found on the forest floor, foraging and cooking food and setting traps and tracking wildlife.

Courses for the whole family are also available and will last for half a day.
