A DIGITAL workshop will be held in Castle to enlighten people aged 50 and above about the world of online banking.

Barclays Bank is working with Age UK Cheshire to put on the Tea and Teach event at Castle Community Centre, in Barbers Lane.

The free online banking information session will take place from 1pm to 3pm on Wednesday, March 26.

Sue Roberts, Barclays branch manager, said: “With more than 5.1 million people over 65 in the UK who have never been online, research by Barclays has found that if all of them were to use the internet it would result in a collective saving of £3.78 billion a year.

“The research found that those who are online spend less on an annual basis.

“An older internet user typically saves more than £61 a month on household bills thanks to shopping comparison sites, lower travel costs and buying for less online – a saving of £732 a year.

“Given that the average pensioner income is just £18,000, internet access can make a substantial contribution to the household budget for the older generation.”

Barclays has also created more than 3,500 Digital Eagles in its UK branches to help novice internet users.
