A TRANSPORT service for older people is gaining momentum across Cheshire.

Age UK Cheshire’s Driving You service was launched in January and has already received more than 80 referrals.

Driving You is an accompanied transport service run in partnership with NHS South Cheshire Clinical Commissioning Group and NHS Vale Royal Clinical Commissioning Group.

It provides transport to older people who struggle to get to their GP, hospital or wellbeing appointments.

Age UK Cheshire’s drivers will collect people from their home, take them to their appointment, wait with them, and then take them home again.

The service is currently available to anyone over the age of 55 who has mobility issues and has their GP practice in Middlewich, Sandbach, Alsager, Crewe, Nantwich, Audlem, Wrenbury, Scholar Green, Northwich, Weaverham or Winsford.

Cathrine Ruston, project manager, said: “It’s such a fantastic service – Age UK Cheshire’s drivers are outstanding – completely reliable and able to put their passengers at ease straight away.

“The service is really starting to gather momentum and we are delighted with the amount of interest that it has received.”
